Building a Strong Company Culture: The Beekman W.A.Y

As a staple of Port Shepstone’s private sector for over 50 years, The Beekman Group isn't just about beautiful resorts and unforgettable vacations; it's about creating a truly exceptional experience for everyone involved, including our incredible team.

Employee well-being is a core value at Beekman, as we strive to be an employer of choice, attracting and retaining top talent. Which is why we launched the Beekman W.A.Y. programme in 2017 – a holistic approach to employee wellness that goes beyond simply recognising hard work.

The Beekman W.A.Y. is about fostering a culture where everyone feels valued, empowered, and inspired. Through this programme, we encourage our team to adopt these culture pillars:

These guiding principles resonate throughout our 30+ resorts and our Port Shepstone head office, uniting our 1200+ team members in a shared sense of purpose.

The Beekman W.A.Y fosters a culture of collaboration, empowerment, and inclusivity, recognising that our people are the true heartbeat of the organisation. To achieve this, we dedicate significant resources to employee well-being, investing well over R1 million annually in initiatives that enhance the lives of our team.

To build the element of inclusion from the ground up, we have appointed dedicated Culture and Engagement Officers to champion employee well-being, and we organise a diverse range of events throughout the year, from team-building activities and social gatherings to community outreach programmes and health and wellness workshops.

Beyond the formal programmes, we encourage a robust culture of recognition and appreciation. We provide ample opportunities for personal and professional growth. From financial wellness workshops and life skills training to access to mental health resources and professional development programmes, we strive to support our employees in all aspects of their lives.

The results of this commitment to employee well-being are clear. We boast high levels of employee satisfaction, exceeding 85% in recent surveys. This positive environment translates directly into exceptional customer service, with guest satisfaction consistently surpassing 80%. Our motivated and engaged workforce drives our success, fuelling continued growth and innovation.
